Nice Nice Northern California

Since it was Rachel's parents third time visiting Oregon, we wanted to include some local highlights, but also do something new this time. When we looked at a map and realized we were only 6 hours from the Redwood Forest. None of the Groves had been there, so we planned a few days across the border!

We stayed in the quaint town of Eureka in a beautiful Victorian house. It was so much fun to have a whole house where we could cook meals, play board games, and watch the Olympics!

We spent one day driving along the beautiful Avenue of the Giants, which winds through the forest for 30 miles and is lined with trailheads leading to hikes of various lengths. We were able to see some of the featured trees in the Forest, such as the Giant Tree, Immortal Tree, and Eternal Tree.

Another day we enjoyed a leisurely stroll through the local shops of Ferndale. We had coffee in an adorable cafe that even had a sweet kitty walking around. We became quick friends! After enjoying the city center, we spent the early evening watching the waves ride in and out on the coast. It was deeply peaceful watching the water and experiencing a new section of the coast.

We were all very pleased with the decision to spend part of our vacation in Northern California. Now that we know how doable of a drive it is from Oregon, we hope we will be back to see more!
